Carlos Ghosn has sued Nissan in a Lebanese court, seeking $588 million in lost compensation and $500 million in punitive damages for reputational damage, according to Bloomberg News.

Bloomberg obtained a copy of the Arabic-language lawsuit translated to English, which the outlet says was filed to Lebanon's public prosecutor on May 18. The lawsuit claims that Nissan did irreparable damage to Ghosn's reputation by enacting a plot to oust him. While Japanese authorities have indicted him for underreporting his income by roughly $43 million, they were notified of this under-reporting by Nissan after an internal inquiry. He was later also charged with transferring personal investment losses to Nissan. Ghosn claims in the suit that other Nissan executives conspired to set him up for legal troubles. Per Bloomberg:

Ghosn [told Bloomberg that] the efforts within Nissan to find ways to compensate and keep him were criminalized because that was the only “means found by the conspirators to get rid of him as the chairman of the board of directors.”
