BMW has been teasing us with the possibility of an M version of its X3 crossover for years now, but now, thanks to this latest spy video, it seems the X3 M is closer to production than ever.

Nurburgring YouTuber Automotive Mike spotted this partially camouflaged BMW X3 testing at the limit on the Nordschleife during a recent industry test pool session. Why do we think it's the X3 M? Well, the most telling sign is the exhaust setup-there are four exits, two on each side. It's a signature feature of every modern M car since the E39-generation M5. Also, it looks really quick. Here, watch for yourself.

There's no official word on what sort of engine will power the X3 M, but we're guessing it'll be a version of the twin-turbo straight-six found in the current M2 Competition, M3, and M4-that's just speculation, however.
