The Chevrolet K5 Blazer first showed up in 1969 as a competitor for the Ford Bronco and the International Scout. In 1982, the Blazer name was given to an S-10-based midsize SUV. But in 2005, Chevy finally killed it off. Now, more than a decade later, the Blazer might be ready for a comeback.

That's what Automotive News thinks, at least. Its spy photographers recently caught Chevrolet testing a midsize SUV that looks like it would slot between the Equinox and the Traverse. And according to their sources, it'll be called the Blazer when it heads to production.

If you were hoping the reincarnated Blazer would be a Colorado-based SUV, though, you may be disappointed. Automotive News believes it'll instead be a crossover that shares a platform with the Traverse. So much for a new Blazer to take on the Ford Bronco.

Whatever Chevrolet has up its sleeve, we should see it fairly soon. Automotive News expects the Blazer to go on sale in 2017 as a 2018 model. The question is, though, does this mean GMC plans to bring back the Jimmy, too?
