Yahoo Autos The Chevy Camaro Z/28 Is a Car You Don't Need to Modify to Have Fun
We hate to use the cliché description "race car for the road" when talking about fast, capable road cars, but the Chevy Camaro Z/28 certainly fits the bill. All its racey features give it the ability to go around a circuit at a blinding pace, and Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire is here to show you how in his latest One Take.
THe Z/28 is far cry from a normal fifth-generation Camaro. For one, it's a lot wider. In order to fit a set of huge 305/30ZR-19 Trofeo R tires without sticking out, the engineers had to stretch the car's fenders quite a bit. It also has gigantic carbon ceramic brakes, and some legitimately functional aero bits.
In order to get the instant turn-in lacking in base Camaros, Chevy dropped in some hardcore F1-style spool-valve Multimatic monotube shocks. While this is the same suspension used in the 1LE, the spring rates are around 20% stiffer, meaning it's ready to stick in any corner you throw at it.
Did we mention it also has the LS7 7.0 liter V8 from the last-generation Corvette Z06? Good for over 500 horsepower, it has no problem rocketing the Z/28 to 60 mph in about 4.2 seconds.
If all of that isn't hardcore enough for you, new buyers could also option away the stereo and air conditioning all together, leaving just one little speaker for the door chime.
