Chevy to Offer High Desert Package for Silverado Pickup This Fall

Chevrolet this week revealed that it will introduce the Silverado High Desert package when the 2017 version of the truck arrives this fall in Chevy showrooms. The package, which includes refined styling, special suspension dynamics, plus new larger wheels and an all-new secure cargo system, will be available on LT, LTZ, and more luxurious High Country trim level Crew Cabs. Pricing has not been announced.

The High Desert package was previewed on a concept Silverado truck during the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and features a new water-resistant, lockable storage system for the cargo bed area with dual side storage bins and a 3-piece hard tonneau cover. Special cargo dividers are featured on the bed floor.

The upscale High Country trim level’s High Desert package also features a key fob-operated tailgate lock. In addition, the High Country’s High Desert package will be the first to offer magnetic ride control suspension with sensors that read the road precisely to trigger damping changes in milliseconds. Also, electronically controlled shock absorbers replace conventional mechanical shocks for comfort and agility with the package, Chevy says.

In addition, all three Silverado trim levels with the High Desert package are powered by GM’s EcoTec3 6.2-cylinder V-8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, which Chevrolet officials say is one of the most powerful engines offered in a light-duty large pickup. The engine is partnered with a new Hydra-Matic 8-speed automatic transmission. The High Desert package provides 20-in. wheels with all-season tires for the LT trim while the LTZ and High Country variants ride on 22-in. wheels with all-terrain tires available.
