Polestar, the electrified performance spinoff brand from Volvo's parent company, is in a dispute with Citroën. The French automaker has taken Polestar to court over the company's logo, which Citroën says is too similar to the company's double-chevron badge. The court ruled in Citroën's favor over the summer, enacting a a temporary ban on the logo in France that's just coming into effect.

The case found that using a similar logo for another automaker has damaged Citroën and its subsidiaries, like DS, as reported in a translated version of a story by L'Automobile Magazine. The punishment is a six-month ban on the logo and a fine of €150,000 ($174,422.25 at today's exchange rate).

Practically, this doesn't change much. Polestar was not yet selling cars in France, so its temporary inability to do business with their logo (which adorns all of its cars) probably won't be a big problem. But the company can't expand into France for at least six months, and this is a precedent that may cause future legal headaches for the firm. For now, users trying to access the Polestar website from France will be given notice that it's temporarily unavailable.
