Some folks love it, others hate it, but the wedge-shaped Aston Martin Lagonda, produced from 1976 to1990, has become infamous. But the car that preceded it, the more conventional Series I Lagonda, has been more or less forgotten. At least, I'd never seen one before this example turned up for sale at Aston Martin Works. That's not much of a surprise, though, considering only seven were built.

This particular Lagonda was built in 1974 and was used as a display car at that year's London Motor Show. The Series 1 Lagonda is based on the DBS of the same era, and both cars share Aston's venerable 5.3-liter V8. This Lagonda comes equipped with Aston's so-called X-Pack that brought horsepower from 380 stock to nearly 500.

Between 2002 and 2004 this Lagonda was subject to a complete restoration to concours quality, and has been maintained by Aston Martin Works ever since. Everything on this car is original, save for a Becker head unit, heated front seats, and a "concealed" Motorola car phone.

Aston Martin doesn't have a price listed for the Lagonda, but considering a regular two-door DBS of this vintage is worth around $180,000 in concours condition, expect to pay a lot more for this one. Four-door practicality never comes cheap.
