If you're into special edition cars, Mecum has the lot for you. It's auctioning off a collection of 16 different Indy 500 pace car edition Corvettes-a few of which have actually paced the race.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

Current owner Keith Busse spent decades building a fantastic collection of cars representative of the ones used to pace the Indy 500 over the years, according to Mecum. Ranging from 1978 to 2017, there's one C3, two C4s, five C5s, five C6s, and three C7s. Of course, not every car in the collection has actually paced the race. But the ones Busse couldn't get, he managed to create exact replicas. From the Mecum listing:

What makes this collection so assuredly singular in its existence are Busse’s 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 examples, as the pace car editions from those four years were never offered for sale to the public. Rather, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Chevrolet gave Busse special authorization to duplicate the pace cars from those years using the officially licensed paint schemes and pace car graphics. The official Indianapolis 500 graphics were sent directly from the decal manufacturer to Fort Wayne, where they were applied to the cars at Tom Kelley Chevrolet before Busse took delivery.

The collection will be offered as a set at first. If no offers are accepted, each car will be auctioned off individually at Mecums's Indy 2018 auction from May 15th-20th. Each individual Corvette will come included with two tickets to the 102nd running of the Indy 500 on May 27th if they are sold separately.

There's no estimate price for the entire lot, but estimates for each individual car can be found here on Mecum's site.
