For 2018, IndyCar introduced new spec bodywork for the Dallara DW12 chassis used by the series since 2012, but that's not the only new thing. Road & Track contributing editor Marshall Pruett breaks down the new electronics used by the series in his latest video. There's a number of significant changes to explore under the gorgeous new skin of the 2018 IndyCar.

The biggest change comes from UK motorsport legend Cosworth, which supplies a new steering wheel-mounted LCD data screen system for all IndyCar teams. Cosworth also offers a carbon-fiber steering wheel with this display built in, or teams can opt to build their own wheels with the displays integrated. This display is a huge improvement over the decades-old non-graphic unit used by IndyCar prior to 2018.

Relocated radiators in the new bodywork also necessitated moving other electronic components, like the McLaren ECU. The most obvious change for fans, though, is a new graphic display mounted on the side bodywork near the engine intake. Timing and scoring can show pretty much whatever they want on this screen, from pit-stop time to racing position or current speed.
