The new Acura NSX GT3 is currently in Florida running shakedown laps before the season-opening Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona next month. Our friends at Racer stuck a camera in the car with Ozz Negri behind the wheel out on the track, and man, it sounds great.

The NSX race car–based on the Performance Car of the Year-winning road car–sounds good, but the GT3 car amps things up. This twin-turbo V6 doesn't have quite the wail of the Porsche 911 RSR's flat-six, but it sounds way more aggressive than the honking Ford GT race car. An in-car video is probably your best chance to hear the NSX GT3, since it'll have to contend the earth-shattering V8s of the Corvette C7.R in person.

To make the NSX a GT3 race car, Acura had to make significant modifications to the street car. The race car uses a V6 engine based on the one found in the road car but eschews that car's front-wheel electric motors. The combustion engine in the road and race cars do share a block, displacement, crankshaft, pistons and dry-sump lubrication system, however. The result is a lightweight, rear-drive race car that promises GT3 greatness.

Acura might make a rear-drive NSX road car inspired by the GT3 car too. Ideally, the company will maintain the race car's aural excellence.
