Welcome to The Grid, R&T's quick roundup of the auto industry and motorsports news you should know this morning.

What'd They Make?

Automakers just released the compensation for their execs, and they are truly staggering numbers. Mary Barra saw her pay go down about three percent in 2017, but don't feel bad for her. She's still the highest paid exec, raking in $21.96 million. Mark Fields, the ousted Ford exec, made $21 million. Jim Hackett, his replacement, made $16.7 million. Hackett started on May 19th, so not a bad payday.

FCA head Sergio Marchionne made $12 million, but FCA didn't include stock options in his salary, which were valued at... $41 million. Then there's Elon Musk, who has a different deal than everyone else, because of course he does. His deal, over a decade, could get him nearly $56 billion, with a B.

Who Won What

This weekend's F1 race seemed like it was going to be boring, just a procession around the streets of Baku. But the battle between the Red Bulls, which was close all day, turned crazy when Verstappen aggressively blocked an attempted pass from Ricciardo, leaving both cars out of the race. Then Bottas lost a tire while in the lead and a huge lockup by Vettel took him out of contention after leading most of the race. That left Hamilton to win from Raikkonen, who recovered from a first lap incident, and Sergio Perez.

NASCAR's race at Talladega saw Joey Logano win his first race since last April, followed by Kurt Busch and Chase Elliott.

Indy Test

There's an open test at Indy this week, and it's open to the public. The best part? It's free. If you're near IMS Monday to Wednesday, head on out and check out the 2018 car in action on the oval.
