Doctors Say Dale Earnhardt Jr. Will Race Again

From Road & Track

In a press conference today, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced that doctors have said they expect him to make a full recovery from the concussion symptoms that have put his racing on pause. And while he didn't say exactly when it would be, he confirmed his plan to return to racing.

According to Autosport, doctors have traced Earnhardt's "concussion-like symptoms" back to the June wreck he had in Michigan. His symptoms worsened over the next couple weeks, eventually leading him to suspend his racing in mid-July.

At the time, some speculated that Earnhardt's injuries could be career-ending-he had previously suffered a concussion in 2012. Today's announcement put those rumors to rest.

"It's a challenge, but we've got some great doctors and I really believe and trust what they're telling me. They tell me without question that I'm going to be able to get back to normal," Earnhardt said at today's press conference. "Our intentions are to get cleared and get back to racing. Just taking it one evaluation at a time."

And while no return date has been announced, we do know that Jeff Gordon, who temporarily came out of retirement to replace Earnhardt, will be driving in at least the next two races.
