He came in like a Mopar wrecking ball…

A 34-year-old man driving a Dodge Charger in Colonie, New York took out multiple utility poles and street signs when he wrecked out at a high rate of speed just after midnight on February 16. Police believe he was speeding and from the aftermath of the crash, we’d have to agree. It would take a lot of momentum to transform a Charger into that big of a wrecking ball, turning a city block into what looks like a war zone. In the aftermath of the crash utility service to over a hundred homes and businesses in the area was knocked out.

Per a local report, the unnamed driver was trapped inside his 2021 Dodge Charger, which was covered in debris. He was semi-unconscious in what was left of the Mopar, which firefighters had to tear into so they could get him out. Police said the man suffered internal injuries and is in the ICU at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He's lucky to be alive.

Police say the Mopar was traveling east on Central Avenue when it suddenly veered into the westbound lanes. The Charger then hit a utility pole on the side of the road, kept going, and hit several traffic signs as well as three additional utility poles. What was remained of it finally stopped in a parking lot near Lansing Road North. As you can see, there’s precious little left of the Dodge.

First responders had to deal with wires which were tangled around the vehicle, as well as other debris, before they could extricate the driver. Another car struck some of the debris in the road, damaging it enough it had to be towed from the scene.

Even though he’s in the hospital’s ICU, police say they expect to charge the Dodge driver. The unnamed man is from Brooklyn. It isn’t clear what he was doing in Colonie or why he was speeding, but an investigation is ongoing so there might be some answers in the future.
