Don't You Wish Nissan Would Slap on a Sentra SE-R Badge and Sell This Renault in America?
No team sets up a hot hatch chassis quite like Renaultsport. Despite that, the Renault Megane RS 280 Cup isn't perfect.
Choose the regular one, and it won't be as hot as you'd like. Chasing a Focus RS or a Civic Type-R? Forget about it. Go for the Cup chassis however, and the Megane's always firm suspension takes a huge step away from the everyday practicality of a Golf GTI, the message its five-door body is supposed to project.
But while the Megane's somewhat reduced steering feel and so-so manual gearbox might leave a hardcore European enthusiast confused about its mission, I don't think anybody would say no to such a GTI alternative on U.S. shores.
Four-wheel steering, Brembo brakes, a mechanical differential, 276 horsepower and 288 pound feet of torque. Unique looks, and a historic European badge we wish Nissan could replace with its own, purely for America's sake. After all, what's the Renault-Nissan Alliance for if not to find us loopholes, in the name of more speed?
