Yahoo Autos Dream Cars Like Take Three Years to Build
While Ken Okuyama's surprise for this year's Pebble Beach was the Lamborghini-based Kode 0, his 2016 creation, the Ferrari 599-based Kode 57 is definitely worth a second look. Especially if you're a fan of the 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa.
Okuyama is one of the most versatile designers out there - his company has styled eyewear, watches, tractors and 200 mph Shinkansen bullet trains. As far as his automotive career goes, he spent almost a decade a General Motors before moving on to help Porsche with its 996 and Boxster projects. After that came an opportunity at Pininfarina, where Okuyama designed the Ferrari Rossa prototype for the 2000 Paris Motor Show. Two years later, he was the head of the design team that styled the Ferrari Enzo.
Fast forward to today, and Ken Okuyama Design is on its way to build a limited run of five Ferrari 599-based supercars called the Kode 57. These speedsters are an evolution of his previous homage to the '57 Testa Rossa, featuring a carbon fiber body with sharp, curving lines.
The Kode 57 also grabs eyeballs with its exposed V12, wind deflector, new wheels and sidepipes, and tries to push them closer to your brain by way of 600 Novitec-tuned horsepower. At 3400 lbs, the speedster is also lighter than a 599, further enhanced by a custom suspension and improved cooling.
Creating a car like this is a three-year process even with a solid donor car at hand, but it's definitely worth the trouble if your dream is something you can't find in the Ferrari brochure.
