Driver going wrong way on Route 80 dies in head-on crash with tractor-trailer

A motorist who was driving the wrong way on Route 80 in Morris County died early Saturday morning when his SUV collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, state police said.

The driver was identified Monday as Angelo F. Atienza, 29, of Lake Hiawatha.

For reasons not yet known to police, Atienza was heading west in the eastbound lanes of Route 80 for an unknown length of time.

Around 4 a.m., his Toyota RAV4 smashed into an oncoming International tractor and semi-trailer in Parsippany, State Trooper Charles Marchan said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries.
