Yahoo Autos Driving One of the Surviving Chrysler Turbine Cars Is a Surreal Experience
I have a fondness for turbine cars. In particular, the Chrysler Turbine car. I wrote a book about Chrysler's turbine program–which ran from 1953 to 1983–and have even driven the one owned by Jay Leno.
Recently, I had the opportunity to see another Turbine car up close. There are nine of these cars left and Chrysler owns two of them, one of which is often displayed at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Michigan. So, I brought a video crew and my good friend, Mark Lieberman. We shot a full-length video which the video elves are working on right now.
But, because I knew I couldn't document this event enough, I brought a GoPro camera with me and shot some footage of the car driving up and of us getting to drive the car. I'll admit, I did not know we would actually get the chance to drive the car but when it was offered to us, we took it.
So, here is a short video of the Chrysler Turbine car tooling around the museum parking lot. And, of us getting to drive it. And for those of you taking notes, this means I have now driven two of the surviving Turbine cars. And there are only five of those that run. Two down; three to go.
