Yahoo Autos E39 M5 Wagon: Exactly What We Wish BMW Built
The E39-generation M5 is regarded as one of the best driver's sedans on the planet. With the age of turbocharging an electrification upon us, this vintage M5's naturally aspirated V8 and available six-speed manual transmission have boosted its status to a true collector's item. BMW never made a wagon version of the E39 M5, so one owner decided to have a custom shop build one instead. This car is the result. And you should buy it.

This is a thoroughly converted E39 M5 "Touring," built from a 540i wagon donor car injected with the drivetrain, suspension and interior from an M5 sedan. That means a 400-horsepower V8 sending power to the rear wheels, an M5-specific exhaust system, M5 wheels, and M5 bumpers. The self-leveling air suspension found in the 540i was deleted and replaced with a set of Bilstein shocks. The build looks to be very high quality, and looks like something that could have rolled off the factory floor in the early 2000s.
According to the sellers at Orange County Auto Kennel in Costa Mesa, California, the conversion was done four years and 4000 miles ago. The odometer reads 134,595 miles, indicating the mileage on the M5 sedan donor's drivetran; it's unclear how many miles were on the wagon shell pre-conversion.
Though it looks factory-stock, this car is actually a painstaking combination of two great BMWs put together into one magnificent package.
