El Paso man in chaotic 'Live PD' episode accused of murder after body found in Chaparral

An El Paso man is accused of killing another man whose body was found last month inside a vehicle in Chaparral, New Mexico, police officials said.

Jevare Stephawn Freeman Handy, 35, was re-booked on a murder charge on Tuesday while already in custody on unrelated charges at the El Paso County Jail Annex, police said.

Freeman is accused of killing 37-year-old Rodolfo Fuentes sometime between Nov. 15-20 at the San Marcos Apartments, 921 N. Zaragoza Road in the Lower Valley, police said.

El Paso County Jail records show that Freeman had been jailed since Dec. 11 on charges of family violence, failure to identify and evading and resisting arrest, as well as a parole violation.

An investigation by homicide detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit allegedly determined Fuentes had been killed weeks earlier.

Channel 14-KFOX reported that a person called the Otero County Sheriff's Office about a body in a car at a trailer park in Chaparral on Nov. 20. Deputies and New Mexico State Police went to the scene, but the body was not found until Dec. 7 when the car was at a nearby tow yard.

Freeman is being held under a $2 million bond on the murder charge, though he has no bond due to the parole violation. Details on the homicide have not been disclosed.

Bizarre TV incident at Whataburger

In 2018, Freeman was in a bizarre incident that aired on the reality-policing cable TV show "Live PD."

He was arrested after being shocked with a Taser by a female police officer while he was half-naked behind the grill after attacking customers at a Whataburger restaurant on Dyer Street in Northeast El Paso.

Records also show he was convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison on an attempted-murder case when he shot a Fort Bliss soldier in the back during a parking lot fight in 2010.
