When GM announced its all-electric truck push, it was GMC that took the spotlight. The company announced an electric, 1000-hp super truck that brings back the Hummer name as a sub-brand of GMC. Now, though, Chevy is joining the electric truck wars. GM has confirmed that an all-electric Silverado is on the way.

GM confirmed that the Silverado will have over 400 miles of range. It'll be built alongside the Hummer EV at GM's "Factory Zero" plant, using the automotive giant's new "Ultium" battery architecture.

"This Silverado is designed from the ground-up as an electric truck," GM President Mark Reuss said during a conference at Factory Zero. "We have models designed specifically for fleet and commercial truck customers that we know they're going to love," he added, suggesting that the Silverado will be the more practical, volume-focused model to complement that flashy, consumer-oriented Hummer pickup.

The company has not released any additional design details or specifications. We'll have to wait to hear about pricing, release timing, tech details, and styling. GM says more details will be released this year.
