Blue Lightning, a Lotus Evora that's been converted to electric drive in Canada using Tesla Model S and Chevy Volt bits is easily one of the most exciting EV projects out there. With its customizable traction control and a basic rear-wheel drive setup, it's the the kind of budget electric performance car we're all eager to start experimenting with.
The 460-horsepower prototype's most recent upgrades include power-steering, different driving modes. and display settings for the digital instrument panel. It also recieved a three-way valve in the cooling system that can divert heat from the radiator to the cabin, or vice versa.
Electric vehicles accelerating at an unbelievable rate is nothing new, but to be quick around a technical circuit, an EV also needs good weight balance and a traction control system that knows how much torque it can let through to maximize cornering speeds.
In Drift Mode, Blue Lightning's system allows 40 percent wheel slip, while in Maximum Range, it will even shut down its battery cooling and power steering to save the energy. Then comes Time Attack mode, in which this special Lotus just scored the trophy for the fastest in the rear-wheel drive class, and third overall after a fully-built Subaru and an equally developed Integra Type R race car. When it comes to adjustability, the sky is the limit with electric cars. No wonder why McLaren is working on a fully electric P1 successor.
