Yahoo Autos What Engine Is In this Jaguar F-Pace SVR Prototype?
Back in July, we heard a rumor that Jaguar's fastest-selling vehicle ever, the F-Pace crossover, would be getting a performance-oriented SVR variant with the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 from the F-Type R. Well it seems as if Jaguar's starting to test that car, because it's finally showing up at everyone's favorite test track: the Nürburgring. Problem is, it sounds nothing like the F-Type. At all.
The minute-long video from Youtuber cvdzijden shows the camouflaged crossover being flung into the corners at an impressive speed, hinting that this just may be the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO)-developed F-Pace we've been waiting for. There's one thing that's throwing us off, though, and that's the sound.
The 550-horsepower supercharged 5.0L V8 from the F-Type R is used in a variety of performance Jaguar-Land Rover cars, and for good reason. It's a ferocious engine that makes no excuses regarding its presence. In cars like the Range Rover Sport SVR, it roars, pops, and crackles up and down the rev-range, telling everyone in ear-shot that it's no ordinary SUV. So it should do the same in this hotted-up F-Pace, right?
Wrong. Though it sounds like a V8 at times, there's no hint of that monster of an engine we fell in love with before. It certainly makes a noise, but it seems tame and refined. The opposite of what a performance Jaguar usually is.
Now, Jaguar could be doing this on purpose, muting the exhaust note to confuse every curious party. Or, it could be something entirely different.
Jaguar hasn't announced anything official yet, so we'll just have to wait and see what's hiding under that engine bay. In the meantime, watch and listen for yourself to see if you can figure out what's powering the latest F-Pace. Because we can't.
