Welcome to The Grid, R&T's quick roundup of the auto industry and motorsports news you should know this morning.

Verstappen Family Feud

At the Chinese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen came under fire for a wildly over optimistic attempt at a pass on Sebastian Vettel that resulted in contact and neither car finishing on the podium. Verstappen apologized for it immediately, but his father, Jos, said that Max needs to learn from his mistakes and think more in situations like this.

The elder Verstappen, a former F1 driver, said that the pass was "an error in judgement" and that Max "needs to think more." He also said the worst thing a father can say to a son: he's not mad, he's disappointed. That's always a punch in the gut when you hear that from your dad. But Max is a young kid who is just having a tough start to the season. He'll turn it around.

Escalade Discount

The Lincoln Navigator has been a bit of a revelation. The new big SUV is elegant, quick, and full of interesting features and tech. People are noticing, particularly people at Cadillac.

Cadillac doesn't want to lose customers to Lincoln, so its offering some customers up to $10,000 off on a new Escalade. People who are leasing a 2016 Escalade are privvy to the $10,000 discount, while owners can get up to $7500. The Escalade is huge for Cadillac's bottom line, so it makes sense that the company would work hard to keep customers in the cars.

New VW Logo

Volkswagen is going to update its logo next year as the company begins to release more electric cars. The logo has been essentially the same for a gazillion years. The update is unlikely to be a wholesale change, but perhaps it'll add a little bit of color, like blue or green to show off environmental friendliness.
