Yahoo Autos Even a Terrible Car Wreck Couldn't Keep This Woman Off the Race Track
When Nathalie McGloin was younger, she was paralyzed from the chest down in an unfortunate car crash. Despite this setback, she found an interest in cars and driving. Eventually, she made her way onto the track, and now she races a fully prepped Porsche Cayman.
The car utilizes unique hand controls for acceleration and braking, as well as a PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Additionally, McGloin has a specially designed racing seat shaped to her ribcage that helps her feel the car better as it rotates. And even though she only uses her hands, McGloin is an incredibly talented driver, competing against the top group in her Porsche racing series.
To help other people, she's set up an organization called Spinal Track. It puts paralyzed enthusiasts into the racing seat, teaching them how to drive on track with hand controls. McGloin is an inspiration, but she's also proof racing can be for anyone.
