Every Plug-In-Hybrid Vehicle for Sale in the U.S. Today
Plug-in-hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) are the bridge between traditional gasoline vehicles and strictly battery-powered electrics. In many cases, the PHEV model serves as the performance trim. See, for example, the 302-hp Toyota RAV4 Prime or the 5.0-second-to-60-mph Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring.
If relying on battery power alone for your commute sends your anxiety into the stratosphere, maybe a powertrain with batteries and gasoline will cool your jets. With a PHEV, the gas engine allows you to keep driving even when battery power runs out, and unlike a traditional hybrid, its larger battery can be plugged in for a recharge. Most PHEV models have better fuel economy and acceleration performance than their gas-only counterparts. But their larger batteries often require the use of smaller gas tanks, so they sometimes suffer from a shorter overall range.

Audi Q5 55 TFSI e
The Audi Q5 55 TFSI e builds on an already-great compact luxury crossover. With 362 horsepower, the plug-in hybrid powertrain nets the Q5 an additional 161 horses over the entry-level Q5 40 TFSI. We hope you like the squareback Q5's looks, though, because Audi doesn't offer the plug-in powertrain in the more style-focused Q5 Sportback.

Bentley Bentayga Hybrid
Just because you have north of $200,000 to spend on a Bentley doesn't mean you want to spend even more of your hard-earned dough at the gas station. The gasoline-electric Bentley Bentayga plug-in hybrid allows owners of this big SUV to enjoy the cossetting qualities that define the British ultraluxury brand, while also affording up to an estimated 27 miles of battery-powered driving range. Opt for the entry-level plug-in Bentayga and you're looking at a stately SUV capable of producing a peak of 443 horsepower. Not enough power for you? Then the pricier plug-in Bentayga Azure or S trims' 455 horsepower may be more to your liking.

Like the rest of the BMW 3-series lineup, the plug-in 330e benefits from a slight makeover for 2023 that brings an updated exterior and interior to the small sports sedan. Positioned just above the 330i in the 3-series model line, the plug-in 330e's gasoline-electric powertrain produces 288 horsepower—33 horses more than its less powerful gas-only kin. Sure, the plug-in bits add heft to the 330e and the battery pack cuts into cargo volume, but for many, these are small prices to pay to get behind the wheel of a 3-series with an estimated battery-powered driving range of 23 miles on a full charge.

BMW 530e
Like the smaller 330e, the mid-size BMW 530e plug-in hybrid sits just above the 530i in the 5-series pecking order. It also shares the 330e's 288-hp plug-in powertrain. Thanks to its sizeable battery pack, which nets the 530e less trunk space relative to its strictly gas-fed counterparts, BMW's plug-in mid-size sedan benefits from an EPA-rated electric driving range of 21 miles.

BMW X5 xDrive45e
If the four-cylinder-based plug-in powertrains of the BMW 330e and 530e sedans fail to get your heart racing, then maybe the six-cylinder-based setup that powers the gasoline-electric X5 xDrive45e will. With a combined output of 389 horsepower, the plug-in X5 scooted its way to 60 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds under our watch. The X5 xDrive45e balances this grunt with a sizeable electric driving range, too, with the EPA estimating this mid-size luxury SUV will travel 31 miles on battery power alone before firing up its gas engine.

Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
If you can live without the gas-powered Chrysler Pacifica's available Stow 'n Go second-row seats, which can flip and fold into cubbies in the floor to create a vast, flat load space, the Pacifica's available plug-in hybrid powertrain may be worth a look. As a bonus, the hybrid's second-row seats feature additional padding, which makes these chairs far more comfortable. Of course, the macro benefit of opting for this hybrid family hauler is its electric-only driving capability. With a full charge of its battery pack, the plug-in Pacifica is capable of traveling 32 miles on electricity alone, according to the EPA.

Ferrari 296GTB and GTS
Ferrari's entry-level plug-in hybrid model bears the name 296GTB in coupe form and GTS in its drop-top setup. Entry-level, of course, is a bit of a misnomer, because, with a starting price of more than $300,000, the 296's cost of entry requires far more than chump change. That sum, however, nets an 819-hp gasoline-electric powertrain that's sure to push this Ferrari past the mile-a-minute mark in less than three ticks of the second hand. Its 10 miles of electric-only driving range won't take its driver very far on battery power alone, but given the sweet sounds that emit from this Italian sports car's mid-mounted V-6, it's likely most owners will avoid driving the 296 in its battery-electric drive mode anyway.

Ferrari - 10/33
Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Spider
It's unlikely you'll ever see a 986-hp Ferrari SF90 Stradale or Spider (SF90-speak for coupe and convertible, respectively) parked next to a Hyundai Ioniq 5 at a public charger, but it's possible. Thanks to its plug-in powertrain, the SF90 can travel an estimated 9 miles on battery power alone. When it comes time to burn fuel, a 769-hp twin-turbo V-8 comes into play. This engine works with the car's three electric motors (two up front, one in back) to accelerate the SF90 with vigor. Don't believe us? Well an SF90 Stradale we tested accelerated 60 mph in a mere 2.3 seconds.

Ferrari - 11/33
Ford Escape PHEV
The Ford Escape PHEV uses a four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor to produce a combined output of 210 horsepower. Like all 2023 Escapes, the plug-in model benefits from improvements to its interior and exterior designs and the latest iteration of Ford's infotainment system. With a starting price of $41,995, the PHEV is the priciest powertrain option in the Escape model line. Nonetheless, this sum nets the PHEV an estimated electric-only driving range of up to 37 miles. That's enough range for many owners to complete their daily commute on battery-power alone.

Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid
The plug-in Hyundai Santa Fe uses a 178-hp turbocharged inline-four and a 90-hp electric motor to produce a combined 261 horsepower. That's 35 horsepower more than the regular hybrid! Both all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission come standard. Though the PHEV Santa Fe sports a sizeable EPA-rated range of 31 miles, keeping this SUV's gas engine from firing up is a difficult task. Simply put, the electric motor lacks the grunt to push this hefty Hyundai around at a reasonable pace.

Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid
The daring design of the new Hyundai Tucson helps it stand out in the crowded compact SUV segment. Opt for the PHEV model, and Hyundai equips the Tucson with a 261-hp gasoline-electric powertrain. All-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission both come standard. Though the Tucson lacks some of the polish of its Santa Fe sibling, the compact Hyundai SUV base price undercuts the plug-in Santa Fe's base price by nearly $5000.

Hyundai - 14/33
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
With the demise of its available 5.7-liter V-8 for 2023, the two-row Grand Cherokee now offers just two options for motivation: a strictly gas-fed V-6 or a plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged inline-four and two electric motors. Opting for the latter nets the two-row Grand Cherokee a combined output of 375 horsepower and up to 26 miles of EPA-rated range. Alas, the powertrain works better on paper than in practice, as the setup's clunky transition between its power sources feels unbecoming of a vehicle with a starting sum of more than $61,000.

Jeep - 15/33
Jeep Wrangler 4xe
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe produces 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque from its hybrid powertrain. It's not some pavement dweller, either, as the features sheet includes items such as a pair of solid Dana 44 axles, a two-speed transfer case, and more than 10 inches of ground clearance. If you're worried about what dunking your Jeep would do to the electric components, Jeep claims the 4xe's high-voltage parts are sealed and waterproof. Getting out and measuring the puddle with a stick probably wouldn't hurt, though.

Car and Driver - 16/33
Kia Niro PHEV
Now in its second generation, the 2023 Kia Niro changes the script on its available plug-in powertrain. No longer a plug-in analog to the plug-less Niro hybrid, the latest Niro PHEV retains its ability to motor about for miles (approximately 33 by Kia's estimates—seven more miles than we saw in our testing) on battery power alone, but now adds extra power to the mix. With a combined 180 horsepower on tap, the Niro PHEV outmuscles its hybrid counterpart by 41 horses. This allowed the PHEV to hit the mile-a-minute mark in 7.3 seconds under our watch, notably better than the 8.9-second time we recorded in the hybrid.

Kia - 17/33
Kia Sorento PHEV
If you're a fan of the 10Best-winning Kia Telluride, but your heart is set on a PHEV, then the Sorento is worth checking out. Though smaller than the Telluride, the Sorento retains many of its bigger sibling's best qualities. It even offers a third row of seats, though it's a far less spacious third-row relative to that of the Telluride. For some, that rearmost row may be a dealbreaker. Yet, those able to put up with the plug-in Sorento's more compact size will find an SUV capable of traveling an estimated 32 miles on battery power alone. Keep a light foot, though, as the electric motor's limited power makes it difficult to keep this plug-in SUV from firing up its gas engine when accelerating from a stop.

Kia - 18/33
Lexus NX450h+
The Lexus NX450h+ takes the top spot in the hierarchy of NX powertrains. With 302 horsepower, the NX450h+ rocketed its way to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds—a full 2.0 seconds ahead of the less powerful, plugless NX350h. Unfortunately, the performance-focused NX450h+'s lateral dynamics fail to match up with its straight-line speed. Those who don't prioritize driving dynamics likely won't care, though. Instead, they'll likely find more value in this Lexus's 37 miles of EPA-rated electric driving range.

Lexus - 19/33
Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring
The Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring is the luxury brand's 494-hp plug-in-hybrid variant of its three-row mid-size model. This plug-in Lincoln's plentiful power allows it to leave the line with gusto. Alas, it's not exactly the most efficient PHEV out there. During our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, the PHEV Aviator returned 25 mpg, just 3 mpg better than the gas-only Aviator. Although it's possible to get 21 miles of battery-powered driving from the Aviator Grand Touring, the model's hefty $71,585 base price means it'll take many, many, many years of primarily electric-only driving to cover the extra coin Lincoln charges for the Aviator's plug-in Grand Touring trim.

Car and Driver - 20/33
Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring
The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is the American luxury brand's compact plug-in hybrid SUV option, and it offers an EPA-estimated 28 miles of battery-electric driving. Unlike the Aviator Grand Touring, the Corsair Grand Touring takes a much less performance-focused approach to the PHEV formula, with the last plug-in Corsair we tested requiring a ho-hum 7.0 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph. Its pricing, however, follows in the tread marks of its bigger stablemate, and at $55,280, the very well-equipped Corsair Grand Touring stickers for around $15,000 more than the entry-level strictly gas-powered Corsair.

Lincoln - 21/33
McLaren Artura
The McLaren Artura carries on the gasoline-electric tradition of the brand's gone-but-not-forgotten P1 supercar. With 671 horsepower, this mid-engine machine is capable of rocketing to a top speed of 205 mph, while also driving up to 11 miles on battery-power alone.

McLaren - 22/33
Mini Cooper S E Countryman
The Mini Cooper S E Countryman is the not-so-mini Mini. The big and heavy (by Mini standards) plug-in Countryman is neither particularly affordable nor especially efficient—the EPA's combined fuel economy rating for the all-wheel-drive Cooper S E Countryman is just 29 mpg when driven in its hybrid mode, while its electric driving range is just 18 miles.

Mini - 23/33
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
A new Outlander PHEV arrives for 2023. Like its gas-only counterpart, the plug-in Outlander is essentially a slightly longer, three-row Nissan Rogue with different powertrains. It's possible that Nissan will choose to port the Outlander PHEV's 248-hp gas-electric hybrid setup into one of its own models at a future date. For now, though, this powertrain is specific to the Mitsu, and it's arguably superior to the SUV's standard four-cylinder engine. Besides being more powerful, the Outlander PHEV offers an estimated 24 miles of driving range on a full charge of its battery pack. At $41,190, the Outlander PHEV's price is competitive with other plug-in compact SUVs. Still, the plug-in Mitsubishi SUV is more than $10,000 pricier than the entry-level Outlander.

Mitsubishi - 24/33
Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid
The Cayenne E-Hybrid strives to be a stellar performer. Its combination of a turbocharged V-6 and an electric motor gives it a total of 455 ponies. And that's the slower one. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid pairs a twin-turbo V-8 with an electric motor for a total output of 670 horsepower. In our testing, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid blasted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. The Cayenne Coupe also features the same plug-in-hybrid powertrains.

Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid
As with the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid SUVs, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid's sportiness is unquestionable. With a combined 455 horsepower out of the gate, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid accelerates briskly, and its low center of gravity and wonderfully tactile steering make it a joy to drive. Need more power, though? Then Porsche's got you covered. Opt for the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, and this four-door Porsche produces a cool 552 horses. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, meanwhile, turns things up a notch courtesy of its peak output of 690 horsepower. Even better, Porsche offers all three of these hybrid options in both the Panamera's fastback and wagon (or Sport Turismo) body styles.

Porsche - 26/33
Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Subaru's lone gasoline-electric entry also happens to be a PHEV. With 148 horsepower, the plug-in Crosstrek is the least powerful variant of the Japanese brand's high-riding hatchback. It's also the heaviest and most expensive. Neither fleet on its proverbial feet nor capable of going particularly far on battery power alone, the Crosstrek hybrid fails to make a strong case for itself among its own kin let alone other PHEVs. Still, if you're determined to own a plug-in Subaru, then the Crosstrek hybrid is the car for you.

Subaru - 27/33
Toyota Prius Prime
Toyota's latest generation of Prius welcomes a tasteful design, additional power, and even better efficiency. Though the Japanese automaker is mum on many of the details related to the plug-in Prius Prime, it has shared that the PHEV variant will benefit from a notable increase in its electric-only driving range. We expect close to 40 miles of such driving. With its gas engine fired up, the 2023 Prius Prime produces a total of 220 horsepower, more than enough grunt to move this hybrid hatchback with reasonable gusto.

Toyota RAV4 Prime
The 302-hp Toyota RAV4 Prime is not just the quickest RAV4 model, it also accelerated to 60 mph more quickly than the last four-cylinder Toyota GR Supra we tested. Even better, the Prime's sizable battery pack affords it an estimated 42 miles of battery-powered driving range on a full charge. In other words, Toyota's created a PHEV with the straight-line acceleration of a sports car, the utility of a compact SUV, and enough electric driving range to—in theory, at least—tackle the average commute without burning a drop of fuel.

Toyota - 29/33
Volvo S60 and V60 Recharge
Want the most powerful variant of the Volvo S60 sedan or V60 wagon? Then you're going to need to spec the plug-in hybrid powertrain. Dubbed the Recharge, these PHEV Volvos offer an estimated 40 miles of electric-only driving range on a full charge. Both plug-in Volvos powertrains dole out 455 horsepower. The V60 Recharge, meanwhile, is strictly available in racy Polestar Engineered form (the S60 is also available in this guise). As such, the compact plug-in Volvo wagon wears a starting price nearly $20,000 greater than that of the S60 sedan, which starts at $52,345 in its base Core trim.

Volvo S90 Recharge
The Volvo S90 Recharge brings plug-in power to the Swedish brand's mid-size sedan. With 455 horses, the Recharge's hybrid powertrain is the most powerful option in the S90 line. This abundance of grunt gives the S90 plenty of get-up-and-go, yet, the big Volvo sedan's spacious rear seat ensures those in the back can literally stretch out their legs while the driver figuratively stretches out the Recharge's legs with a good boot of the right pedal.

Volvo - 31/33
Volvo XC60 Recharge
Think of the Volvo XC60 as the SUV analog to the S60 sedan and V60 wagon. No surprise, then, that it's also available in plug-in hybrid Recharge guise. With 455 horsepower, the XC60 Recharge is the most powerful variant of the XC60 model line. Those looking for handling that matches the Recharge's power will want to spend a few extra bills on the racy XC60 Recharge Polestar Engineered trim.

Volvo XC90 Recharge
Rounding out Volvo's handful of hybrids is the XC90.
