The Outlander’s funky face and squarish body are obsolete compared with the many attractive compact-crossover alternatives. While the aging design and large dimensions separate it from most rivals, the Mitsubishi has more oddities and fewer qualities than our favorites.

Exterior Features

With an outlandish front end and boxy roofline, the Outlander is awkward but not offensive. Too bad the PHEV has several decals that deface its facade. Every model wears 18-inch wheels and LED taillights, but only the top-level SEL and GT are available with LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding mirrors, and a power liftgate. While a sunroof is available on select models, a panoramic option is absent-an anomaly nowadays.
