The ‘Fast X’ Trailer Is HereNBCUniversal
  • Fast X is set to hit theaters on May 19.

  • The Fast X trailer pays homage to the franchise’s origins but also seems to stick with the modern formula.

  • Jason Momoa joins the franchise as the latest film’s leading villain.

The latest Fast and Furious film is getting close to hitting the silver screen, and the trailer has finally dropped. Slated to hit theaters in May, the franchise seems to pick up where you’d expect it to with Dominic Toretto getting his crew back together to save the world.

As you can see from the video above, the trailer opens with a sweeping shot of the house from The Fast and the Furious, which then leads to an homage to the legendary cookout scene from the same movie. While there are some loving nods to the franchise’s origins, the movie seems like it sticks with the more recent formula of taking down a cartoonishly powerful villain, this time played by Jason Momoa.

The trailer adds Momoa to scenes from Fast 5, to give his character a longer-running arch. While Toretto and his crew have taken down some wild villains before, this is the first time a villain has done the unthinkable: kidnapped Toretto’s son, Brian. This seems like it’s going to be the main plot of the film, and explores the intertwined relationship between Toretto and Momoa’s character.

Judging from the trailer, the film will be another star-studded operation, with the Fast 9 villain Jakob Toretto (John Cena) teaming up with his brother’s crew. Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren are just a few of the A-list stars who see screen time in the upcoming film. The trailer also hints that this film will dive back into the street racing format established by the first movie.

The most important part of the trailer for the Fast and Furious faithful is at the end. The trailer closes with the film’s official launch date: May 19. The trailer also notes that “the end of the road begins,” which establishes that the book is finally ready to close on the Fast and Furious story.
