Yahoo Autos Felipe Massa Says He'll Go to Formula E After F1
Williams driver Felipe Massa has revealed that he plans to race in the all-electric Formula E open-wheeler championship once he decides to retire from Formula One. The 36-year old Brazilian says he's already done a test in a Formula E car, but has yet to decide when to depart F1 and make the switch.
Autosport talked to Massa on Friday in Monza leading up to the Italian Grand Prix, where he revealed his post-F1 plans.
"Yes, Formula E. But I don't know when," Massa told Autosport. "I did a test with them," he added. "When I decided to stop F1, I was talking with some teams and with Formula E."
Massa briefly retired from Formula One at the end of 2016 before he was asked by Williams to return to fill an empty seat left by Valtteri Bottas after his move to Mercedes.
As for the actual test drive, Massa just wanted an up-close look. "I wanted to see the car, I wanted to drive the car and see how it is," he told Autosport. "I did a test with them just to see how it is."
"You cannot compare [it to Formula 1]," Massa added. "It's completely different but it is still a competition."
Though Formula E is likely in his future, Massa is clear the switch might not come anytime soon, as Formula 1 still has it's opportunities.
"I need to analyze everything and then decide what is my option for next year and if the options I have are making me happy," Massa said. "I feel that I am competitive [in Formula 1]. When you see you are competitive and are doing a good job in the car, that really motivates you."
