The Ferrari 488 Might Actually Be Too Much Car for the Road

From Road & Track

We already know the Ferrari 488 Spider is a great car. Few other new vehicles can match its blend of performance, usability, and prestige. But, in the quest to make its mid-engine super car perform, has Ferrari made the 488 too fast? Mark from savagegeese drove one to find out.

The Ferrari 488 Spider is a significant turning point in the brand's history, being its first turbocharged mid-engine car since the legendary F40. It certainly lives up to those high expectations though, laying down some insane performance numbers. 0-60 happens in three seconds flat, and 0-100 flies by at a scant 6.4 seconds. That means a 488 can break every speed law in the country before you can even finish reading this paragraph.

This poses a problem for many enthusiasts wanting to get their hands on the latest, greatest sports car from Maranello, though. Mark comes to the conclusion that the 488 just can't be exploited to its full potential anywhere other than a closed race track, and even then, most owners won't achieve the car's full potential. He even goes as far as saying it kills the fun of actually driving the car.

That doesn't mean it isn't a great machine, though. Mark analyses the design bumper-to-bumper, talking about every little detail that makes the 488 so damn fast.
