Ferrari just released a few photos of its upcoming limited-edition track-focused 812, and, wow. It looks wild, with all sorts of new aerodynamic features like a giant boomerang-shaped duct in the hood and slats replacing the rear window. But the bodywork isn't the craziest thing about this new 812—that'd be the engine, which makes 830 horsepower at 9500 rpm.

As a brief reminder, the 812 uses a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12. We live in a world where big power figures are common, but horsepower like this without forced induction or any hybrid assist is extraordinary. And getting a 6.5-liter engine to spin well beyond 9000 rpm is no easy task, either. More details on the engine are coming, but Ferrari says it was able to achieve these numbers with new internals, plus a new variable valve-timing system and a new exhaust.

Its 9500-rpm redline makes this 65-degree V-12 the highest-revving Ferrari road-car engine of all time, and it'll be one of the highest-revving production car engines out there. Only the upcoming Gordon Murray T.50 with its 12,100-rpm V-12, the Aston Martin Valkyrie with its 11,000-rpm V-12, and the Mercedes-AMG Project One with its 11,000-rpm V-6 will beat it. And those three are all ultra-limited, seven-figure hypercars.

Ferrari hasn't yet revealed the name, price, or expected production numbers for this new 812. Those will come in a live-streamed event on May 5th along with more details of the car. This will join a pretty amazing lineage of mad front-engine V-12 Ferrari specials, which includes the 599 GTO and the F12tDf.

There's talk that all future V-12 Ferraris will have some sort of hybrid assist. We don't know if this is the last one that's all engine, but if it is, what a way to go.
