The base price for 124 is technically higher than the Miata, but every other trim level will cost less than the comparable Miata. Here's the comparison, including an $800 destination charge that Mazda adds and a $995 destination charge for the Fiat.

124 Classica - $25,990
124 Lusso - $28,490
124 Abarth - $29,190

The key here are the Lusso and Abarth versions. The Abarth is more like a Miata Club and the Lusso is more like a Miata GT in purpose. Both of those models undercut the comparable Mazda, especially the Lusso vs. Miata Grand Touring.

Will Fiat steal sales from the Miata? Or will it be a totally different sort of buyer? Or, yes, there's a third option, will they coexist fantastically and we'll just see more small roadsters on the road? We're hoping for option three, since more roadsters makes for a better world.

You can buy your very own 124 Spider this summer.
