The First Car Tesla Sold Is Still Cool but Definitely Has Its Quirks

From Road & Track

The Model S is the car that really made a name for Tesla. But before it sold sports sedans with Ludicrous Mode and Autopilot, Elon Musk's electric car startup sold a different car-the Tesla Roadster.

Built on a Lotus Elise platform, the Roadster suffered more than its fair share of setbacks. But still, when we first drove it, we thought it was "composed and competent at speed with great turn-in and transitioning response, picking up a gentle understeer when pushed through a corner a little too hard."

But now, eight years after the Tesla Roadster was introduced and four years after it went out of production, how are these cars holding up? Have the batteries all drained and the body panels fallen off? Are they still cool cars to own?

You don't really see them around all that often, which isn't surprising considering that fewer than 2500 were sold worldwide. But fellow car writer Doug DeMuro recently had the opportunity to take one for a drive, and of course he made a video of his experience.

Check it out and also be sure to check out the previous weird car he drove, the TVR Tuscan.
