This Is the First Crash in Practice for the Indy 500

From Road & Track

Spencer Pigot, rookie for Rahal-Letterman-Lanigan racing and recent Road & Track Instagrammer, just hit the wall in turn one during practice for the 100th Indianapolis 500.

It looks like Pigot just got loose in the center of turn one, tried to catch it, but just couldn't. He ended up hitting the outside wall pretty hard, but the car didn't flip, a vast improvement over last year.

If you don't remember, last year's practice sessions for the 99th 500 saw quite a few crashes that involved flips. Hopefully IndyCar's safety advances are what helped keep Pigot's car on the ground.

Pigot was checked, released, and cleared to drive from the infield medical center. The next step is getting Team RLL to rebuild the car so he can practice more before qualifying this weekend.
