New York-based Bollinger Motors is a startup promising to deliver the world's first electric sport and work truck. The company claims that their production-ready B3 will debut this summer, featuring portal axles for a substantial 15.5 inches of ground clearance, as well as a four-wheel hydro-pneumatic independent suspension with 10 inches of wheel travel and disconnectable sway bars for added articulation off road.

With a track width of 68 inches and a 105 inch wheelbase, the Bollinger B3's short overhangs give it an approach angle of 56 degrees, and a departure angle of 53 degrees. Thanks to the heavy batteries being built into the floorpan, Bollinger also claims a 33 degree breakover angle.

The B3's chassis is made mostly of aluminum, reenforced by a high-strength steel crash structure. Turning this into a versatile sports truck is Chief Engineer Karl Hacken, John Hutchison, the lead engineer on thermodynamics, brakes and HV, CJ Winegar, the gearbox and drivetrain integration guy, and Luc Pham, who's responsible for the battery and all the electric wizardry.

The Bollinger team doesn't fail to point out the benefits of having a powerful electric pickup truck. Silent operation at all times, but especially when you want to get away from all the noise, lots of torque taking care of any medium-duty job, very easy maintenance and the opportunity to power your off-the-grid cabin using the truck's electric system. Mind you, there's no word on the B3's range yet, but the New York Auto Show is just around the corner, so we'll try to get more out of designer/CEO Robert Bollinger if we see him.
