  • The AMR23 is the first Aston Martin project overseen by technical director Dan Fallows, who arrived in early 2022 following a protracted departure from Red Bull Racing.

  • Alonso and Stroll will form Aston Martin’s driver pairing.

  • Aston Martin is also due to move into its impressive new factory at Silverstone in the next few months.

Aston Martin has presented its new car for the 2023 Formula 1 season, to be raced by Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, as it bids to take the next step in its journey.

The Aston Martin name returned to Formula 1 in 2021 after owner Lawrence Stroll rebranded the Racing Point team that he controlled.

Stroll has invested heavily in the project and has outlined long-term ambitions to fight for overall honors in Formula 1. So far the team has secured only back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the championship but has targeted making the next step in 2023.

Aston Martin has recruited heavily, with the AMR23 the first project overseen by technical director Dan Fallows, who arrived in early 2022 following a protracted departure from Red Bull Racing, with Eric Blandin—Mercedes’ ex-head of aerodynamics—his deputy.

The AMR23 features a heavily revised front wing and new sidepods—incorporating a sweeping inner ramp to channel airflow more efficiently—as well as an overhauled engine cover that has a larger roll hoop inlet.

“The design team was adamant that it wanted to tackle these regulations without compromise,” said Fallows.

“We want to move up the grid and start challenging the teams at the front – and you can’t do that by sitting back and being conservative.

“AMR23 is a significant development of the car we refined in the latter half of 2022 – and we have improved it in every critical area. It optimizes the solutions we felt would offer us the most performance, and it embodies the joint vision we have embraced and have built together over the recent months.”

Aston Martin is also due to move into its impressive new factory at Silverstone in the next few months, the benefits of which should be first seen in the 2024 car, while its new wind tunnel is expected to be operational in time for the development of the 2025 car.

“This year’s move into our new state-of-the-art factory is more than just a serious statement of intent: it will considerably strengthen and empower every single individual in this organization, helping us to deliver on our ambition to narrow the gap to the front of the grid and, in time, become genuine championship frontrunners,” said Stroll.
