First Images: Ferrari F1 Reveals the SF-24 for the 2024 Formula 1 Season

Ferrari unveiled its car for the 2024 Formula 1 season, the SF-24, at Maranello on Tuesday.

The car will be raced by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Five-time race winner Leclerc is entering his sixth campaign with Ferrari while it will be a fourth and final season in red for Sainz, following the news earlier this month that he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton in 2025.

Sainz scored Ferrari’s sole win of 2023, in Singapore, which proved to be the only non-Red Bull victory of the entire season. Ferrari finished third in last year’s Constructors’ Championship. It is the second season for Ferrari under the stewardship of team principal Frederic Vasseur.

“We need to continue the progression that we had at the end of 2023: more points, performing better, and being more efficient—it was probably the biggest weakness of last year,” said Vasseur.

Technical director Enrico Cardile outlined that the SF-24 is a “complete revamp” and “a big departure compared to what we did in 2022 and 2023.”

Enhancing the driveability of the package, after inconsistent displays in 2023, has also been a key ambition for Ferrari.

“Every area of the car has been redesigned, even if our starting point was the development direction we adopted last year and which saw us take a leap forward in terms of competitiveness in the final part of the season,” said Cardile. “We have taken on board what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into engineering reality, with the aim of giving them a car that’s easier to drive and therefore easier to get the most out of and push it to its limits.”

Leclerc conceded that 2023 was “very difficult” but expressed confidence that the weaknesses from last year have been eradicated.

“It was very clear the direction in which we needed to work to achieve better results this year,” said Leclerc. “The difficulties we encountered during 2023, I’m confident they will not be there in 2024 anymore. The main area we had to work on was sensitivity to the change of conditions, we had a very peaky car last year, and this we wanted to change to make it better and easier to drive.”

Sainz also conveyed optimism that the peakiness from last year has been removed.

“My main intention is simply for the car to be a bit more driveable and have a wider operating window,” he said. “Last year we struggled in certain conditions and at certain circuits we were not as good, we struggled with predictability at the beginning of the year, so having a wider window and making the races easier (is the aim).”
