Our First Look At The New Land Rover Discovery

From Road & Track

After discovering a lightly-camouflaged prototype just recently, Land Rover decided to show us the real deal, confirming that they threw away the boxy shapes, only to inject the new Discovery with a dash of Range Rover Sport/Evoque styling. Buy one in white, and you'll have a Stormtrooper helmet that can go off-road.

Land Rover's latest 7-seater will be more upscale than the current generation, which is likely to make it more expensive as well, but you get an SUV packed with high-end technology for the extra cash. Land Rover will also expand the Disco family by adding a third body style later on, while the Discovery becomes the first Land Rover to get the SVX treatment from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations. The X stands for improved off-road performance and wilder looks.

Using an aluminum monocoque as well as JLR's modular 2.0 four-cylinder turbos will also make this generation considerably lighter than the current one, which weighs 5,780 pounds. We'll know more after the premier on the 28th, just ahead of the Paris Motor Show.
