Yahoo Autos Fisker EMotion Promises 161-MPH Top Speed, 400 Miles of Electric Range
Henrik Fisker, the car-designer-turned-car-builder, has finally spilled some of the details regarding his newly-launched electric car company. Witness the all-new Fisker EMotion, an all-electric, self-driving-capable sedan that Fisker claims will offer the most of everything: The highest top speed (161 mph), the longest driving range (400 miles), and the most high-tech batteries (powered by graphene) of any current mass-market electric sedan.
Fisker says the design of the car, made of composite carbon fiber and aluminum, focused heavily on aerodynamics in order to maximize range, while still providing a roomy cabin. The low nose and nearly horizontal windshield combine with a rear spoiler and a diffuser to help shape the air around the car.
And it'll be able to drive itself, sorta: Fisker says the EMotion will be "equipped with hardware that will allow fully autonomous driving when approved and released by a soon-to-be-announced partnered supplier." The interior, as is the trend with most advanced propulsion vehicles, promises to offer a bevy of infotainment screens for every seat.
Fisker says the EMotion is scheduled to begin production sometime soon in an unnamed facility in the United States. Deliveries are said to begin after the finalized car is shown to prospective buyers in mid-2017.
The EMotion is just the latest of Henrik Fisker's many recent automotive projects. The designer, famous for penning vehicles like the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9, launched the hybrid Fisker Karma back in 2011. That car company fell apart in 2013, and China's Wanxiang Group bought the rights to the vehicle, now being sold under the Karma badge. Meanwhile, Fisker, the guy, has been collaborating with Bob Lutz on projects including the VLF Destino (a Corvette-powered Karma) and the VLF Force 1, a rebodied Viper.
Fisker sure is persistent when it comes to building cars with his name on it. And seeing as he's promised a finished car with a record-setting range and full autonomous capabilities by the middle of next year, he's pretty ambitious too.
