In automatic mode, a dual-clutch transmission drives a lot like a traditional torque converter automatic. But mechanically, it's quite a different beast. It's easy to get into a car equipped with a dual-clutch and drive it like you would any other car with an auto, but as Engineering Explained, uh, explains, you'll need to modify your technique slightly if you want your dual-clutch to last.

For example, you don't want to creep forward in traffic like you would with a traditional automatic. Instead, you should wait for a bigger gap between you and the car ahead of you and proceed forward. It's like driving a manual transmission: You don't want to slip the clutch any more than you have to.

Just a few years ago, dual-clutch transmissions were only found in sports cars, but now they're in entry-level Audis, Hyundais and more. That makes this video particularly useful now, since more and more dual-clutches are hitting the road.
