Flood warnings issued in Maricopa County for Salt River dam releases

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning alert on Sunday for parts of Maricopa County this week.

As upstream dam releases continue, flooding may be experienced throughout the Valley and is expected to last until 5 p.m. Friday.

Upstream dam releases on the Salt River will increase waterflow along the Gila River, likely resulting in flooding at low water crossings in Goodyear, Buckeye, Gila Bend, Painted Rock Dam, Cotton Center, Palo Verde, Liberty and Arlington.

Salt River releases continue to affect low water and unbridged crossing near Tempe Town Lake and include flooding at McKellips and Gilbert Roads and closures of 67th Avenue and 91st Avenue in Phoenix in the areas where they cross the Salt River.
