Ford Will Build One GT Per Day From December 2016 to October 2020

From Road & Track

It's hard to believe, but the Ford GT is almost here. Yes, we first saw the GT "concept" in January 2015 (in truth, it was pretty much a production car), but even now, it's still hard to believe that Ford–Ford!is putting something so outlandish into production. Well, it's really happening, and it all starts in December of this year.

Jalopnik published the official brochure sent to GT buyers, which reveals all sorts of nifty info on the GT ordering, build, and delivery process. The brochure states that production will begin in December, and Ford plans to build one GT per day until October 2020. Once a customer completes his or her order, Ford estimates it will take nine months until the car is delivered. A Ford spokesperson confirmed the brochure's legitimacy in an email to Road & Track.

Every GT buyer gets a dedicated Ford GT Concierge who guides them through the ordering, build, and delivery process. Ford will send buyers samples of the optional interior and exterior colors to help them make their pick, but buyers can also opt for custom colors if desired. Buyers will be asked to choose an approved Ford dealer to work with throughout the process.

The customer and dealer will have to work together to set a final transaction price. It's unclear if that means customers might potentially end up haggling with the dealer on the final price of their Dearborn supercar. We've reached out to Ford for clarification, and will update with the automaker's response.

Even though the entire process takes nine months from order to delivery, it only takes two weeks to build a complete GT. As we've previously reported, 2017 and 2018 models are reserved for the first round of selected buyers, while cars produced in 2019 will go to buyers who weren't selected for the first two years of production. The fourth year's production run is open to new customers.
