Ford is drumming up anticipation for an all-electric crossover that’s supposedly launching in 2020. Its styling is said to be inspired by the Mustang, and this sketch that shows a glimpse of the rear end confirms a resemblance. However, recent rumors suggest that Ford won’t be using the storied Mach 1 nameplate for this new model, as the company initially suggested earlier this year.

The classic three-bar taillights clearly denote a connection with the pony car, although this EV will be a taller, four-door crossover without the same high-performance intentions. We can also see that the roofline appears to be sharply raked in the rear, mimicking the style of today’s crossover-coupe segment pioneered by the likes of the BMW X6 and X4.

All we know so far about the mechanicals of this EV is that Ford is promising a driving range of 300 miles on a full charge, which may be merely average in the rapidly evolving electric-vehicle space by the time this car launches. Expect it to have all-wheel-drive capability, too. It will ride on a dedicated EV platform engineered to accommodate a large battery pack-this will be one of five global architectures Ford will use going forward.

Ford also is supposedly targeting an affordable base price for this EV, meaning it could possibly slide in under $40,000 to compete with the Chevrolet Bolt EV, which has an EPA-rated range of 238 miles and starts at $37,495.

As reported by Automotive News, Ford is no longer thinking of calling this new EV crossover "Mach 1," a name it publicly considered when it announced that this new vehicle was happening at the 2018 Detroit auto show. We’ll find out the final name later on as this vehicle gets closer to production.
