  • The GT California Special moniker dates back to 1968, with the new GT/CS likely remaining an appearance package.

Ford's stable of new Mustangs is about to add another steed. That's based on an image the company today posted on social media, which shows a shrouded grille that belongs to a seventh-generation Mustang. Barely visible is a "GT/CS" badge that clearly references the nameplate's previous GT California Special limited editions.

Ford CEO Jim Farley today posted on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, a single image of a new Mustang GT grille that's identified by the headlight design as well as the large air intake on the pony car's snout. Farley writes: "Can't wait to show you what's next for Mustang...".

While there's no other information, we can expect the new GT California Special to mimic previous iterations. The outgoing generation reintroduced the GT/CS for the 2019 model year. As with their predecessors, California-themed Stangs had a unique appearance that included body stripes, exclusive wheel designs, and other unique exterior trim as well as GT/CS-specific interior appointments.
