When Ford first announced its new GT supercar, the plan was to build 500 units of the EcoBoost V-6–powered GT in the first two years of production (250 per year). The 500 lucky souls that got the chance to own the second-generation GT had to apply for the privilege, and around 6000 people were left in the dust with only a rejection letter. However, the folks who were denied the first time around will now get a second chance to own the ultimate expression of Ford performance.

Ford previously announced that it will produce the GT for an additional two years and it soon will be accepting applications to buy one. A Ford spokesman told us that they will reopen applications later this year, but did not give us a specific date. First-time applicants of course will have to start fresh. However, if you applied last time and were denied, your application still exists. You can resubmit as is, or update it if you like. Here’s what Ford wrote to the first-round rejects:

We have confirmed our Ford GT production plans for only two years. However, if additional production is confirmed, your application information will remain in your profile for easy updating.

Once again, Ford will build 250 units each year for two more years-to follow the previous 500. And just like last time, it all comes down to Ford’s judgment as to who gets to own the coveted supercar. Those previously rejected have another chance, but they may want to polish their applications.
