Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Tighe Scott and his son Jarret Scott have been arrested and charged with two felonies and multiple misdemeanor offenses for what prosecutors say was a series of alleged assaults on Jan. 6, 2021 in Washington, D.C.

According to the Associated Press, Pennsylvania natives Tighe Scott, 49, and Jarret Scott 48, allegedly assaulted police outside the U.S. Capitol that day. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the charges and arrests on Wednesday.

Tighe made 89 NASCAR Cup Series starts between 1976 and 1982. While winless, he did have three top-five finishes in his career and he finished sixth in the 1979 Daytona 500 for team owner Walter Ballard.

According to media report, Tighe Scott told people he was a retired NASCAR driver and that contributed to how he was identified.
