Its wild styling may make the Evoque stand out in traffic, but its fuel-economy estimates certainly don't call any attention to the vehicle-they are only average. Plus, in the real world, its fuel-efficiency claims are difficult to emulate.

What's New for 2018?

Despite the addition of an all-new turbo four-cylinder engine for 2018, this Land Rover isn't any more fuel efficient than last year's model-at least according to the EPA's estimates. Since we haven't had the chance to put an Evoque with the new engine through our real-world highway fuel-economy test, we can't say if it's improved. In light of the 2017 model delivering a disappointing 25 mpg in our test, we'd be happy if the new one can at least match its EPA-estimated highway fuel-economy number.

We've devised our own fuel-economy test in an attempt to replicate how most people drive on the highway. Our procedure entails a 200-mile out-and-back loop on Michigan's I-94 highway. We maintain a GPS-verified 75 mph and use the cruise control as much as possible to mimic the way many drivers behave during long trips.
