New Genesis G80 priced from $42,350

Hyundai's new Genesis brand has announced that its G80 four-door sedan, which will rival the BMW 5-Series, is set to list from $42,350 when it goes on sale soon.

Last year's flagship Hyundai has transformed into this year's entry-level Genesis G80 as part of the Korean automaker's new premium brand designed to take on the likes of BMW, Cadillac, and Audi. Compared to the Hyundai Genesis, the Genesis G80 has seen its price increase by $2,650.

That's definitely a hefty increase for the rear wheel-drive G80, which retains the 311 horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 engine that came standard in the Hyundai Genesis last year. However, there's more than meets the eye than a simple price hike to pay for the new badges. The G80 comes standard with most of what was part of a $3,500 Technology Package on the Hyundai in 2016. Think items like automatic emergency braking, a lane keep assist function, and blind spot detection.

The G80 will also offer a 5.0-liter V-8, an engine not offered in last year's Hyundai. That big V-8 puts out an impressive 420 horsepower, and at $55,500, it comes in about $12,000 cheaper than the BMW 550i.

Here's a look at the G80's price walk, which includes a mandatory $950 destination charge.

  • $42,350 for a Genesis G80 V-6 rear wheel-drive

  • $44,850 for a Genesis G80 V-6 all wheel-drive

  • $55,500 for a Genesis G80 V-8 all wheel-drive

All G80s include what Genesis calls its "Genesis Experience" as standard equipment, as well.
