In 1973, the serene town of Gila Bend, Arizona, became the backdrop for a Hollywood mystery involving star Burt Reynolds and British actress Sarah Miles. It all began with Reynolds' birthday party at the Pink Palomino in nearby Ajo, an event that business manager David Whiting was not invited to.
The Night Turns Dark
Post-celebration, some cast members, including Reynolds and Miles, continued drinking at the Travelodge motel in Gila Bend. Miles, after spending time in Reynolds' room, returned to her own to find an irate Whiting questioning her. His jealousy led to a physical confrontation, prompting Miles to scream for help, which brought Reynolds to the scene and caused Whiting to flee.
A Gruesome Discovery
The following morning, the situation took a grim turn when Miles found Whiting's dead body in her room. The scene was distressing, with Whiting lying in a pool of blood, sparking a series of investigations.
