Global Rallycross Will Add an All-Electric Class for 2018

From Road & Track

Red Bull Global Rallycross, the high-contact, high-excitement U.S.-based racing series full of slides and jumps, has just confirmed it will run an all-electric class alongside it's current internal combustion-engine cars for the 2018 season.

UK site Autocar confirmed the news from Global Rallycross CEO Colin Dyne, who said, "We want to embrace this technology by welcoming it into our series as we continue to grow and expand."

According to Autocar, the newly-formed electric series will be governed in conjunction with the United States Auto Club, and join the normal, gasoline-powered series at events across the United States.

There's no telling which manufacturers will build a car and join the battery-powered racing series, but with so many high-dollar names getting into Formula E, we wouldn't be surprised if some big names got involved.

Electric race cars are coming, whether you like it or not.
