This Is the Gorgeous, 550-HP Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster
We've known for a while that Mercedes-AMG was cooking up a drop-top variant of its GT coupe, but damn, we did not expect it to be this pretty. Instead of simply chopping the roof off the GT S coupe, AMG created a new model entirely, the GT C. It borrows some of the styling cues of the track-ready GT R, including wider rear fenders and vertical grille slats, to incredibly elegant results.
The GT C isn't all about appearances, though: It comes equipped with a 550-HP version of AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, an electric locking differential, and the GT R's rear-wheel steering. With these components the GT C spans the gap between the standard models and the crazy GT R.
Of course, if you don't need all the speed in the world (and want to save some money), Mercedes-AMG also has a standard GT variant of the Roadster with 469 horsepower. Interestingly though, Mercedes hasn't announced whether there'll be a GT S Roadster, or to that effect, a GT C Coupe, though we suspect both those models will eventually reach production.
The GT and GT C Roadster make their debut later this month at the Paris Motor Show. Usually, we don't love when an automaker chops the roof off a car originally intended to be a hardtop, but the GT Roadsters look like incredibly compelling packages. No roof means you can hear AMG's glorious V8 all the better, and the C looks like it brings some serious performance upgrades.
We can't wait to find out how they drive.
